{"id":1384,"date":"2017-02-27T09:09:10","date_gmt":"2017-02-27T09:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chatteris.biz\/blog\/?p=1384"},"modified":"2022-04-06T13:39:28","modified_gmt":"2022-04-06T12:39:28","slug":"stopping-mm0cug-mast-rattle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chatteris.biz\/blog\/stopping-mm0cug-mast-rattle\/","title":{"rendered":"Stopping MM0CUG Mast Rattle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the latest round of high winds, my wall mounted 12m mast makes a loud rattling noise which transfers into the house as the mast marginally moves within the top bracket and was getting to be a nusance.<\/p>\n<p>A simple solution was to make a plastic shim to take up the small slack bewteen the mast and bracket, this is visible in the picture to the left of the pin sensor (I put a 90 degree bend in the shim so I can put it out easily).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1379 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chatteris.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_0160-Medium-e1488185778793.jpg\" alt=\"Top mast retaining pin\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chatteris.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_0160-Medium-e1488185778793.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.chatteris.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_0160-Medium-e1488185778793-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For the shim I used the a section of lid from 16 x 16 trunking lid from Screwfix.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1380 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chatteris.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_0161-Medium-e1488185745925.jpg\" alt=\"Trunking lid\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chatteris.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_0161-Medium-e1488185745925.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.chatteris.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_0161-Medium-e1488185745925-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Grinding the lid lip took only a few seconds.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1381 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chatteris.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_0163-Medium-e1488185732215.jpg\" alt=\"Trunking lid grinding down\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chatteris.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_0163-Medium-e1488185732215.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.chatteris.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_0163-Medium-e1488185732215-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finished shim, I used two, one between the fron pin and mast, the other to the side of the top bracket and mast, nice, cheap and easy solution which has solved the noise problem.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1382 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chatteris.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_0164-Medium-e1488185717907.jpg\" alt=\"Finished lid for cutting\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chatteris.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_0164-Medium-e1488185717907.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.chatteris.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_0164-Medium-e1488185717907-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the latest round of high winds, my wall mounted 12m mast makes a loud rattling noise which transfers into the house as the mast marginally moves within the top bracket and was getting to be a nusance.
